CRYSTAL MOSELLE:::

Crystal Moselle, originally from The Bay Area, moved to New York in 1998 to pursue her film degree at The School of Visual Arts. While obtaining her BFA, she assisted in the production of short documentary pieces for Pseudo.com with award-winning filmmaker Ondi Timoner (Dig). She also collaborated with William Kirkley on “Excavating Taylor Mead,” which became an official selection at the Tribeca Film Festival and The Whitney Biennial. This critically acclaimed documentary garnered recognition and praise from such respected publications as the “Top 40 picks of the Tribeca Film Festival” in The Village Voice, “top pick” from The New York Times, and Art Forum’s “Top Ten Films of 2005.”

Realizing her unique style and approach were attractive to the commercial world, she applied to and was accepted by Group101Spots, a challenging network of creative professionals, through which she perfected her reel.

Over the past year, Crystal has produced and directed segments for VBS.tv (Spike Jonze’s online venture with MTV and Vice Magazine), including her latest piece, “Bay Area’s Rap Daddy,” which pays homage to her 53-year-old father who produces hip-hop for kids in jail. JOHN LINDAUER:::

John Lindauer supports women’s rights, shooting a video for Deeyah.

LONDON — It’s not as if her look or her act are that shocking, but her moves have brought the wrath of Islamic fundamentalists upon her.

Deepika Thathaal, or Deeyah, was born in Norway of mixed Asian roots. Her father got her into music and has supported her throughout her career. All was going well until she dared to show a little skin — and that’s when the threats started.

“I would get very abusive phone calls,” she said. “I would get abused as I walked down the street. I would have people spit at me.”

At a concert in Norway, she was attacked on stage by angry Muslim men who thought she was degrading their culture.

Her video was shot by John Lindauer, of Believe Media, whose past clients have included Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, Lisa Stansfield, Christina Aguilera and many others.

Deeyah’s music has a unique contemporary pop sound, which reflects her strong influences from pop, hip hop and rock.

John has been working on a film project called Very Big Things about the environment, and writing a pilot.   He’s a Harvard man.  He is repped for writing and directing by CAA.  He adores his baby daughter Mia.
